Evaluating Existing Research

Research Coach Poster – Fall 2023

For the course CHEM 3100 along with two other peers, I created a poster summarizing “Rapid Authentication of Coffee Bean Varieties of Different Forms by Using a Pocket-Sized Spectrometer and Multivariate Data Modelling” (Boadu et al., 2022). This activity taught me how to interpret analytical chemistry methods and communicate them effectively through a visual presentation.

Instrumental Analysis Scientific Paper – Fall 2024

In CHEM 3100, I wrote a scientific paper overview, summarizing “Development of vitamin K analysis method using column switching high-performance liquid chromatography method and analysis results of various food items for vitamin K content” (Tanaka, 2024). This assignment strengthened my ability to navigate the scientific literature, identify key findings, and write concise summaries.

Cell Physiology Presentation – Winter 2025

I delivered a presentation summarizing the journal article “c-RAF Ablation Induces Regression of Advanced Kras/Trp53 Mutant Lung Adenocarcinomas by a Mechanism Independent of MAPK Signalling” (Blasco et al., 2018). I analyzed the study’s methodology, results, and implications, practicing the skill of converting complex biomedical research into clear and concise explanations.

Biochemistry Poster – Winter 2025

I developed a poster summarizing “Hepatic malonyl-CoA synthesis restrains gluconeogenesis by suppressing fat oxidation, pyruvate carboxylation, and amino acid availability” (Deja et al., 2024). I analyzed the article, pulled out key information, and organized it on a poster.

  • Self-authored environmental scan
  • Completion of a research methods course
  • Self-authored literature review, a report, paper, or presentation that includes a significant discussion of secondary sources (any reference that is used in a student’s work that was not written or created by the student themselves is considered a secondary source)
