Applying Research Methods

NSERC USRA – Summer 2024

I applied analytical methods to investigate how chemical composition influences microbial communities in rivers across British Columbia. This involved the use of ICP-MS to determine the chemical composition of sediment and water samples. Statistical analyses on this newly collected data and previously collected biological data were used to evaluate patterns of microbial diversity.

Cell Physiology Laboratory Project – Winter 2025

I collaborated on an experimental project investigating vitamin C’s effect on endothelial cell proliferation in high-glucose environments. This work included drafting a research detailing methodologies and required equipment, as well as maintaining a comprehensive lab notebook to document procedures and experimental progress.

Biometrics Project – Fall 2025

Formulated hypotheses regarding factors influencing walking speed. Designed a method to test these hypotheses, collecting and organizing the resulting data. Used R to clean the data, generate plots showcasing relationships between variables, and perform statistical analyses to determine statistical significance. Completed a set of worksheets, working through the research process from observations and hypotheses to results and conclusions.
